Spikes

I’ve never been a girly girl, I even had my tom boy phase in my teens. But growing up I’ve learned to embrace both masculine and feminine styles. Here I’m wearing a dress from F21, which could very well be worn as a top. I loved how simple it looked yet it still grabbed my attention. Although the top is cute, it’s still a bit plain, so I dressed it up by throwing up my good old fedora. Now, the shoes – I got these from Beyond The Rack a couple years back. They are super comfortable and adds a touch of edginess to my outfit. Since the get up is simple and relatively modest, the spikes really spice up the look and make it interesting. I knew fancy accessories won’t do with the outfit, so I  put on some hoop earrings, and a simple bracelet. For my purse, I went with a safe choice of brown faux leather. The color simply goes with everything, and works exceptionally well with outfits consisted of neutral colors. This was a really …

Dress Over Pants?

Have difficulty embracing the Dress Over Pants trend? You definitely aren’t alone. It just isn’t what dresses are for! I decided to give it a chance because you’ll never know some things until you try. I don’t have a lot of long loose tops, but I managed to pair my ripped white jeans with this casual collared dress from H&M. This was an easy match also because light blue + white color combination is admittedly pleasant to the eyes. I wasn’t feeling adventurous with the shoes so I went with a safe selection – my trusty nude sandals. I agree some black strap heels would have worked as well but I wanted the focus to be on the outfit rather than attention grabbing heels. Isn’t this a beautiful little purse? This is one of Kate Spade’s Lemon design series. I love it not only because of the unique design, but also the white/dark blue/tan color theme which I personally think work amazing together. In terms of the accessories, I consistently teamed with gold – necklace was gold, and there were hints of gold in my …

Denim Suspenders

Yep, back with another suspenders look 🙂 (And there will be more!) I’ll try not to bore you with all these suspenders but I just love love love them! 🙂 Suspenders are from Suzy Shier, at about $50. Suzy’s stuff is stylish but the quality isn’t the best – so I’d consider this a splurge actually. The tee is from Zara, it was only around $15! Loved the simple white Tee and loved the message on it – No one is perfect! I recently wrote about not letting perfect be the enemy of good, feel free to check it out here. Isn’t this the most adorable necklace? It’s an owl on a chain! If you aren’t a style blogger you may not appreciate how hard it is to find a nice setting to shoot! Luckily there is a beach nearby my place, surrounded by interesting buildings and parks. I was thrilled to have found this little corner 🙂 The shoes are also from Suzy’s! This was on sale, under $10! If you are into comfortable shoes, these are heavenly! …

Supergirl & Her Suspenders Pt.II

Hi everyone, just yesterday I posted Part I of this post, Supergirl & Her Suspenders. This is a continuation of the post and I’ll focus more on the accessories. I bought the hat at Armani Exchange, when I still worked there. Their stuff in general is quite similar to Guess – which means it’s hit or miss for me. I did get employee discount for the hat 🙂 It was originally about $50. I must say it was love at first sight with the shoes, isn’t it just amazing?! This was $45 dollars from an Asian boutique. It isn’t as heavy as it looks, in fact it is quite light and I love that I can run in them! 😛 The sell point was definitely the platform section – horizontal yellow stripes? sign me up! I also adored the shoelace, it is almost 2cm wide, and hence works PERFECTLY with the whole chunky look. By the end of the shoot I needed to relax a bit and enjoy the amazing weather! Let it all go 🙂 Yes this shirt is potentially a boyfriend Tee, it’s really …

Supergirl & Her Suspenders

Hey everyone! I’m back with two personal favorites – Suspenders and Superman. Superman’s been my favorite superhero since I was a little girl, I just couldn’t pass on this Tee when I spotted it at H&M! It was about $15. It is cotton and very light, perfect for days with big sun! The suspenders shorts with leather straps were $50 from Guess. I rarely shop at Guess any more, but I must admit they have some pretty unique chic stuff. Aside from the leather straps, I also loved the color fade on the shorts! It is quite hard to have fades on dark colored jeans without it looking cheap, but Guess pulled it off well with this design! I threw on a fedora hat to dress up the outfit, although there are many types of hats that would work with suspenders, such as caps or trucker hats if you are going for a naughty look. I certainly did not think any earrings would work with this outfit, so I decided to stay away from anything dangly …

Weekn’d Morning Routine

When I have a good morning, I always feel like I have a great day ahead. It’s important to start a day well. Weekday mornings are rushed because I need to get to work, but on the weekends – it’s time to slow down and have a relaxing time ❤ I try to get abundance of sleep on weekends, us girls really need it, it’s like food for our bodies! I usually wake up at around 10 AM. After basic cleansing, I would treat my skin 🙂 I know many people like to do facial masks at night time, but I prefer weekend mornings because I don’t do this daily, it is extra refreshing and I can really take my time ^^ Ever since I was in my teens, my mother used to buy me cosmetics and skincare products so I never had to. Like all Asian moms, she favors American or French products such as Lancome & Estee Lauder. So growing up I never had the habit of buying skincare products, until recent years when I developed liking for Asian products and …

Flower That Never Dies

Flowers that never die? Sounds plenty incredible and a little crazy. This is a gift from a friend who got it in France, and it actually doesn’t die. It isn’t magical or anything, it’s named “preserved flowers”. 🙂 Preserved flowers were invented by Vermont Co. located in France in 1991. Since then, this growing industry has dramatically expanded, spreading worldwide to countries throughout Europe and Asia. Once the flowers start to bloom, they are picked and immersed in a non-toxic, drying compound that draws out the moisture and then dyed with various colors. This unique preservation process gives flowers long-lasting, sustainable life. Isn’t this just amazing? What do you think lovelies? Love, Val ❤

Ripped Denim

I adore ripped jeans. I’m not saying the ripper the better, but there’s just something fab about them when wore “correctly” (meaning ripped to whatever degree that suits you). They are starting to become basics for my wardrobe. They can be paired with almost any top, shirt, sweater and it’ll look good! To me it adds an edgy and sexy touch to every outfit.  Depending on the feel you’re going for, pair them with high heels, flats or sneakers – it all works! I’m mostly into light colored denim, and among that category below are the 3 types I like: Long skinnys – this is classic, easy to match – sneakers, heels whatever you like. I don’t need to share how to wear this, I’m sure you already know 🙂 Loose and high cut – this requires confidence! it doesn’t accentuate figure or anything like that, but it is so stylish! – super “in” this season. Just wear heels if you feel like it enlarges the bottom! (But make sure it’s pumps! Wedges won’t work here) Shorts – OK, …

Pop of Color

The weather in Toronto is gorgeous this weekend! I’m switching my wardrobe to the summer set already! Here’s a little grey dress, one of my favorites to go with the beautiful weather 🙂 I actually got this dress from online (i believe it was YesStyle), for no more than $25 – I was drawn to how flirty this little dress looked, and decided to give it a try, and I can honestly say this is one of my best purchases! It is extremely fitting and comfortable to wear, and the material is not the least bit flimsy. It IS a tad short, so I actually wore safety shorts under :-). The outfit was neutral toned, so I wanted to add a pop of color to welcome summer on its way – my red platforms. I do think the shoes would have looked better with a black dress instead of grey, but dark grey and red work fine together as well, now you know :-). Not only was my dress grey, my accessories are also bordering grey/silver. The …

White Coat, Black Dress, Them Collars

Hello beautifuls! If you have seen my earlier post – My Spring Coat, I presented a look which I consider as street style. Here I am back with another way to wear my spring coat. This one is girly 🙂  I’m sure you could have worn any dress inside and it would work fine, but I felt specifically a collar dress works best because the coat’s collar area is extremely simple, and having collars inside would bring attention to that area without it looking too busy. This also gave it a preppy feel, so to bring consistency, I  paired it with some glasses! Another reason I chose this dress, was that its length is about the same as the coat! I can’t quite pinpoint the reason why this is a good thing, but it just looks odd to me if the inside is much longer or shorter than the coat. I wore a pretty necklace under the collar to dress it up, and wore a black watch to match the black & white theme.
